About Neophoria

What is Neophoria?

Neophoria is a pet project of mine. Started in, oh, let's call it 2000. The bits hit the fan somewhere around April/May '02 - that's when I first started coding this site. All I'm hoping for is the site can pay for itself, and it actually gets used.

Neophoria is hoped to become the official home of independent art in all mediums on the Internet, with revenues coming from referral/affiliate revenues, advertising revenues, and possible subscription fees for access to additional content or features. How long do I think it will be before this site is ready for "production" release? No promises, seriously. I have no clue. This is done in my spare time. But, if all goes well, maybe Spring '05? It could happen...

Who are you?

Adrian Price, the mad coder what codes at midnight. I had never touched PHP or MySQL before I started this site. I've been teaching myself as I go. I think I'm picking it up okay ;) I got started with web design way back in the mid-90's. I moved to graphic design and swore never to go back to coding - after numerous ill-fated bouts with C/C++ for Mac, RealBasic (VB) for Mac, C/C++ for Linux, Java for, well, Java... I know more programming languages than I like to think about, none of them particularly well. But it'll get the job done.

This site has been entirely built using newly-discovered SpareTime® technology, meaning it gets, on the average, about 3 - 5 man-hours a week of attention. Sorry about the slow pace, people. I've got a life.

What will be here when the site is finished?

A lot. Music, movies, writing, and still images, forums, reviews, interviews, recommended pieces based on ratings, links, newsletters and mailing lists, chat rooms, a really spiffy GUI (it's been designed, I just need adequate art, and to put down all of THAT code... oh no...) The list goes on and on. My to-do list is about half a dozen pages, and that's missing about half the stuff I need to get done before I can start putting an interface on, and that doesn't include all the bugs I'll add and have to remove along the way. It's terrifying. Try not to think about it.

But don't worry, we'll get there. What's already here is usable, for the most part - note in the Bug Reports forum if you notice anything wrong. If you think of anything you think should be here, note in the Suggestions forum. Feel free to use the general chat forums for just that - and if you have your own site, feel free to link to any art you've put up.

Even if you don't use the site yet, keep checking in to see what's going on!
